Frog Sanctuary

Work In Progress / 04 February 2023

As mentioned in the previous post, I've also been learning a lot in the last month about environment art. Earlier last year I had found a concept by Paul Trochu for the Untamed artstation challenge. There's so much to work through and learn, but I'm happy with the progress so far.

initial block out

not being familiar with how to approach the foliage I am just using cut outs from the concept for placeholders and updating as I go.

Created my first trim sheet for the stone work, woo!

It's been a journey learning Substance Designer, and seeing what other people have done with it and  this concept is very inspiring! this is about 1.5-2 weeks of learning and work, I'm looking forward to finishing it out!

Frog Rogue Character

Work In Progress / 03 February 2023

I've been working on learning some new skills for the last few months, and I just want to share the progress of each. First project has been a fun character, created by Hing Chui: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/V90kb as a DND character,Toad, the Frog Rogue. Super fun idea, can't wait to finish it.

High poly in zbrush, unwrap and retopo in blender, baked in marmoset, textured in Substance painter, screenshots from engine.

Dong Cheng's Jr Instructor WIP

Work In Progress / 28 July 2021

How it's going:

Concept by Dong Cheng

How it Started:
Body Block outs, worked from the base male mesh in zbrush:

Creature:

This little guy took a back seat for most of this project so far for scope. Then was shoved in last minute for the pose. Def want to revisit him more in the future.

Clothing Block In stages:

Cape was a mix of topological brush and zmodeler. Vest, pants and boots were extractions from the base body, followed by zremeshes. The bird pauldron  and little chest ribbons were made with a nanomesh object plane which I could continue to edit.

For some reason I waited a long time to block in the belts on the corset, instead I started finding the folds of the other parts of the outfit.

All the seams, cloth and folds were hand sculpted with dam standard, standard, clay build up and move.

Getting to the last details (stitching, boot laces) before posing.

next steps- going back to the unposed mesh to add the surface details and really selling the material feel before retopo.

Continuing progress, I opened his eyes to start using my other reference not from the life cast. His face is still obviously in symmetry, and at a high dynamesh. I plan to zremesh and move to working with subdivisions later this week.

Anato-May 2021 goblin WIP Cont

Work In Progress / 16 May 2021

Progress on my anato-may fantasy anatomy project. Plopped in some quick color just to see how it looked. Really happy with the sculpt over all so far! This is about 24 hours worth of work, props included.

Details are WIP still. Took time this week to work on the props.

Learned the hard way to be very careful when googling for foot & toe nail reference... the things I saw... can't be unseen.

Spent most of my time this week on the props them selves.

I wanted to make more props- So I started sculpting the ones from his "Speedy Gobzales" concept. Lots of fun so far! I'm looking forward to getting the Bone dagger in place too.

That's it. Thanks for checking it out.
