Cu`Chulain WIP

 For this project want to: make a realistic AAA level character, get familiar with Marvelous Designer, and push the project through into Unreal. I'm currently working on getting a cloak (not featured) and will be refining details and redoing the tunic as it was my first experiment with MD.

The character is my version of Cu Chulain a Irish demigod. I wanted to do a more subtle take on him and focus on what he could have looked like as a young man rather than the typical warrior depiction. This is quite the research project, as I am trying to be faithful to a ancient time period. My sources have been historical documents, museums, SCA websites and reading through the myths themselves. My original target time period was Pre Christian Ireland- but for the sake of makind something interesting, I've loosened that requirement a bit.

His prop is my best guess on what a Hurley may have looked like in pre Christain Ireland. Though it needs more tweaking. 

My design themes for him are based around elements of his myth are: Hound, the Sun, craftsmanship, and athleticism.

 The penanular brooch on his chest will be holding a cloak in place.

Updating just this post to make process tracking easier.

Posing the character this week- had some fun explosions happening using transpose. So here's the blooper reel: 

TIL- you can't use the GIZMO's deformers in Transpose master or you get this horror:

I have no clue what casused this error. But figured it was because of the high poly count  trying to  transpose mesh... SO after posing a second time I did the /right/ thing, and properly reduce the mesh by going subtool to subtool and duplicating it, zremeshing down, Subdividing twice and projecting the detail back. "You skip a step you have three more waiting for you down the road. "

Honey Cart Update!

It's been a few weeks- so here's an update on the honey cart. New this week: 

Environment revision, high poly cart with 100% gravity falling action! 

Honey drip is placeholder, cliff is rough pass and needs more polish. So does the rhythm of the stuff falling  out the back, but progress is good!

Honey Cart (Maya Hard Surface WIP)

Working on a silly vehicle as my final project in the hard surface Maya class. I wanted to make something fun and stylized to 'balance out' the cannon from the previous post. I loved how the art design in Zootopia worked animal characteristics into their vehicles and took that as a starting point for further stylization (into a more cartoony universe). I imagine this as a sweet food cart putting from outskirts into the city to deliver honey around lunch...

Learning Maya... again! Update

I'm in the middle of a hard surface class in Maya and Substance Painter- this was the first project for the semester: 

The render is from Arnold and textures are my first adventure into Substance Painter. Still WIP but I'm happy with what I've learned so far. . . 

Better renders / textures to come later. As well as the second project...

Anato-may / Class work continues! 

I'm taking a digital sculpture class through along with my Maya class for the summer. The first major project for the class is a portrait, I decided to Mr. Roger's.  It's going to be a challenge to get his smile right, but so far it's pretty fun. This is just the blockout for the first week, smile and cardigan to come later.






  

Learning Maya... again!

Work In Progress / 13 May 2020

I'm relearning Maya- specifically hard surface modeling. I just finished my first week and am pretty proud of the result! I've barely understood Maya in the past, and honestly thanks to working in Zbrush I think I have a better idea of how to think about what I want to accomplish. 

This week will be a first round of crit, then texture and render (I think). Then Week 3 we'll start our final hard surface project. WOooooooooo.
